Sealants

This technique is used to coat the chewing surfaces of teeth with a flowable resin that is bonded into the tooth. It is normally placed on children and young adolescents who usually do not take the time or have the technique to brush properly.

If you can imagine the chewing surface grooves as being smaller than the tip of your tooth brush, you will understand there is no way to get in and remove the plaque (bacteria that is glued in place). This is normally the most common site for all cavities (infections) to start. By gluing in a tooth color sealant, we effectively keep the bacteria out of these grooves. What has been created is a surface where bacteria cannot hide. This makes it easy to brush away the plaque and avoid cavities.
