A smile is most often the first eye-catching feature someone sees when meeting you. A nice smile expresses confidence, improves our self-esteem, and creates an openness to which people are attracted. There are many ways we can professionally help our patients.

Whitening

This process used to be called bleaching, even though bleach was never used. All the processes utilize carbimide peroxide in some different delivery systems and concentrations. You might say these products "get the yellow" out of your tooth. We have done well over 1000 procedures over the last 10 years and can discuss which technique is best for you. Teeth are either shades of yellow, brown, or grey. The darkness of the tooth has nothing to do with drinking coffee or tea. These are surface stains which are removed with appropriate hygiene visits. In one visit we can whiten (lighten) your teeth up to 12 shades and create a "wow" visit.

All our whitening procedures begin with an in-office chairside procedure. The process takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours. You will sit in a comfortable reclined chair while we gently place different products and utilize a special light to create that whiter smile. During this time you can watch TV, listen to the radio, or bring in your own mp3 player. After your visit, you will need to maintain that beautiful smile at different intervals. In order to do this easily, we will make custom trays for you to use as needed. This is a cosmetic procedure and your teeth will darken a little bit each year. I had mine done 4 years ago and have not touched up yet. With trays, the touch up procedure is easy- a little whitening product placed in the tray for an hour per day. In a few days (3) you will be back where you were.

A very common question is "will this damage my teeth?" The answer is an absolute "no." Research has been done testing these products for daily use of one year without one long-term problem occurring. The most common is a temporary tooth sensitivity that occurs in less than 5% of cases. The sensitivity can last for 30 minutes to 24 hours and at this point goes away.

Veneers

These are made of porcelain in our on-site lab. They are thin partial coverings of your tooth used for:

Closing spaces
Covering discolored teeth
Restoring teeth that have too much tooth colored fillings
Changing the shape of teeth
Instant orthodontics--correcting crooked teeth

This technique requires some preparation of your tooth, numbing of your teeth, and temporary coverings of your teeth while our lab creates the veneers. They never stain and you can eat whatever you wish.

Lumineers®

They are a new type of veneer made by Den Mat which holds the patent on the cerinate porcelain to make the lumineer. They are as thin as a contact lens.

What makes them unusual is that the process requires:

No numbing of your teeth – no needles
Almost no reduction of your teeth
Is reversible
No temporary coverings between dental visits
